NARAL Pro-Choice New Mexico will join efforts with The Reproductive Health Technologies Project to urge the FDA to make Plan B available over the counter based on the strong scientific evidence and unprecedented medical consensus supporting it. The nationwide Back Up Your Birth Control Day on March 22nd aims to make emergency contraception more effective by putting it in the hands of women before a crisis occurs. NARAL Pro-Choice New Mexico is hosting an education table on the UNM and NMSU campuses so that students can learn about emergency contraception and write letters to urge the FDA to make Plan B over the counter. Students will also be encouraged to fill a prescription and have EC in their medicine cabinets at home in case it is needed. EC is most effective if taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex or birth control failure.
