Endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America PAC
NARAL Pro-Choice New Mexico Executive Director, Giovanna Rossi, said: “While we are elated that we have a net gain of three pro-choice seats in the state legislature, we are disappointed with the results of the presidential election.”
“The right-wing has been emboldened. We need to make sure we build our grassroots capacity to survive this onslaught. The far right knows that this is their chance – if they can shift the balance on the High Court now, they’ll achieve their goal of overturning Roe v. Wade. They will bring everything they have to this confirmation fight – and we need to match them every step of the way.” Rossi added.
NARAL Pro-Choice New Mexico says they intend to pursue a dual-track federal/state strategy. We must mobilize now at the state level to prepare for a new onslaught of anti-choice bills about to be considered by state legislators – some outlawing abortion entirely – in 2005. We must mobilize now to stop an anti-choice groundswell before it starts.
The organization – which has a targeted list of more than 18,000 pro-choice voters across the state -- focused its efforts on the above legislative districts during the general election campaign.
